Design Show London 2016

Highlights from our visit to the 100% Design Show 2016 Olympia, London.

100% Design Rings

We liked the mirrored rings in the central hall.  Great atmosphere, and even a DJ.

Walkway

100% Design Walkway in the very fashionable herringbone pattern.  This would also be good use to re-use of odd bits of flooring, economical, and eco-friendly as it saves on landfill.

Well Proven Stool:  Wood Awards 2016

Designer: Marjan van Aubel & James Shaw Wood Species: American Ash, American Cherry, American Walnut The Well Proven Stool uses a composite of sawdust and soya based resin using waste material.

Velo Chair:  Wood Awards 2016

Designer: Jan Waterston College/University: Rycotewood Furniture Centre Wood Species: European Ash Constructional Veneer Inspired by the bicycle.  Each surface is hand sculpted. Ash was selected for its flexibility, allowing the complex curves to be free- form laminated without breaking.

Geometry Table:  Wood Awards 2016

Designer: Michael Stevenson College/University: Building Crafts College Wood Species: European Oak Geometry is a modern circular dining table.   The frame is inspired by molecular geometry, made with contemporary stainless steel rods and contrasting classic oak junctures.

Stretch Extending Dining Table:  Wood Awards 2016

Designer: Pengelly Design Ltd Wood Species: European Beech, Birch or Oak The Stretch Extending Dining Table was conceived to use the natural characteristics of formed ply.  The form of the laminations enables the top to slide along a very simple metal frame, exposing the extension leaves stored within the table. First designed in 2003, the re- design in 2015 was based on overcoming issues with the movement of each lamination.

Rocking Chair

 

Rocking Chair. These were dotted about at the show and were very popular. Nearby:  Great coffee, pastries, salads at L'Elysee.
