Why We Recommend Ordering Samples

Choosing furnishing fabric is one of the most important decisions in any interior project. While we work hard to represent colours accurately online, photographs and computer screens can never fully replicate the appearance, texture and character of a fabric in your own home. Colours can vary between screens and different lighting conditions can dramatically affect how a fabric appears. We therefore strongly recommend ordering samples before placing your final order. How to Use Samples Effectively

Once your samples arrive, place them in the room where they will be used and view them at different times of day.

  • Compare them in morning daylight.
  • Assess them in afternoon light.
  • Review them in the evening.
  • Check them under artificial lighting.

You’ll often find that some colours and patterns become richer, softer or more prominent depending on the light. The best choice is usually the fabric that continues to look right throughout the day.

For upholstery projects, place samples alongside your existing furniture, flooring, rugs and paint colours. For curtain projects, hold samples close to the window so you can see how natural light affects the fabric.

Before Ordering Fabric

We recommend obtaining a fabric estimate from your upholsterer or curtain maker before ordering. Fabric requirements depend on the size of the project, pattern repeats and construction details, particularly with patterned fabrics such as tartans.

Important Information

Samples provide a close representation of the fabric selected, however slight variations can occur between production batches and dye lots. Where colour matching is critical, we can arrange a cutting from the current stock batch for comparison
